I bought this because I wanted to be able to grill at high heat, while at the same time barbeque with indirect heat, and occasionally smoke meat at a low 225 – 250 degrees. Inherently, this is a great grill for grilling and barbequing at the same time due to the two zone cooking, but you will not be able to get below 400 degrees without modifications. Yes, the hinges on the grill cover are somewhat weak. If you don’t fling the cover open you should be fine, but I could see the cover slipping out of a person’s hand while opening and then banging to the open position. That would definitely fatigue the hinges. Not a deal breaker…
