The unit is inexpensive and works with a little filing because the casting is of very poor quality. The opening between the body and the distribution insert is too small and inconsistent due to the poor casting. (See pictures of the new shiny piece and an older existing piece that works great. Notice the bigger spacing on the older insert.) This causes the gas velocity to be very high, which will cause it to surge and even flame out at higher gas flow rates.
